Web Design and Programming Examples

Open Source and Volunteer Projects

The Open Source Church

While the site is not yet complete(it currently only features a Blog, which I haven’t updated in a while.), I am leading the project to create an open source web based Church Management Solution. Some of the key features of the product will be, member tracking, small group tracking/attendance/leader access, and children’s check-in. We hope to include some features such as Text message alerts for parents, donor tracking, and eventually a church web site management solution.

Church Marketing Lab/ChurchMarketingSucks.com/Center For Church Communications

I am also working with a team of other designers/programmers for the Center for Church Communications/Church Marketing Sucks on the building of a stand alone site for their church marketing lab currently hosted on Flickr.

Business Clients

BurginForHarnett.com

This website was completed for James A. Burgin For County Commissioner. It has many features that are not often found in campaigns below the federal level. Such features include an online contribution page, a social networking/new media campaign, a blog, a poll creator, an online store(via Cafe Press), e-cards, email/invite friends, and the Most innovative feature, an online call center.

The call center is a custom solution developed to allow the campaigns volunteers, “Team Jim”, to log on to the site and make calls to constituents following a script. The administrative functions include, the writing/configuring of the phone and voice mail scripts( Which includes a pattern replacement to substitute the subjects name/gender title, i.e. Mr/Ms), the setting of “Action Taken” options available to callers to record the results, review of the calls made, and downloading of calls to a spreadsheet program for printing of labels and other materials.

The technology has helped the campaign to initial success, a victory in the primary election, and looks to be a key factor in the upcoming general election victory.

In addition the web site, I also provided marketing consultation, graphic design (print and logo), printing service, and some minor IT consulting(mostly in format conversion for contact records). To view some of the products I created for the campaign view the Print Section below.

CrossrdsChurch.com

The website for Crossroads Church , in Lillington North Carolina, was launched in conjunction with their new service format. It is a huge improvement over the original site, and features a dynamically loaded site rather then a static one. It allows the staff to update pages, volunteer positions, events, blogs, front page images, and every thing else, all from a web interface. Some of the key features are E-card invites, Online prayer requests(Which can be downloaded by staff to a spreadsheet.), an Event Calendar, and the key feature a LIFE groups Directory complete with individual group pages.

This feature allowed Crossroads Church to have a smooth transition from it’s Sunday School format to it’s home based LIFE Group format, by providing an easily accessible way for the group leaders to download weekly group notes, update attendance, and provide group specific updates using their group page, all with in a secure user authenticated site. It also allowed for a smooth transition by making it easy for church members to find a group either by a list or using a map/proximity search. The use of these features has enabled Crossroads to make what could be a difficult transition for most churches an easy and smooth process for themselves.

Another Key feature of the site is the addition of interactive map with in the site. Visitors to the site are able to view the churches location and get direction all without leaving the site.

In addition to web site design, I have also provided Crossroads with many different services including, Graphic Design, Logo Design, Printing, IT Consulting, Marketing Consulting, and Copywriting.

Graphic Design, Print Work, Logo Design, and Branding

Jim Burgin For Harnett County Commisioner

I was hired by Jim Burgin’s campaign as a technology and marketing consultant. I designed his campaign’s Logo, signs, stickers, mailers, shirts and other apparel, website, and much more. To start off I created 5 logo comps, from which I made revisions and ultimately came up with the logo to the left. From there I worked to develop a campaign slogan and motto. Upon completion of the brand development I gave Jim’s campaign a brief on the brand and proper usage of the logo and corresponding check mark mini-logo.

So far the campaign has seen great success and stands out among the crowded political marketing that goes on at the various levels during election season.

CrossTown Kids

For CrossTown kids ministry I was challenged to create a brand that coincided with the overall church brand i had helped develop yet was still fun, unique, and kid friendly. After about three or four name changes, theme shifts, and numerous logo comps, we came upon CrossTown and the logo to the left. I am currently developing a small flash site that will pull most of information from the RSS feeds on the main site, yet offer Crosstown a unique, more kid based website. The new brand has helped the ministry take off and hes given the kids a new excitement. The logo has been painted above doorways, put on t-shirts, and is in the proccess of being integrated into a hallway mural.

Fork In The Road - Sermon Series

Crossroads Church in preparing to launch a second Sunday worship service, wanted to do something above and

Series Bulletin

beyond it’s usual sermon series. I was asked to head up the marketing and branding for the series. After discussion and brainstorming, we decided to do invitation cards, travel mug giveaways, and a series website. Upon the launch of the series Crossroads saw their highest attendance ever. Along with the extra marketing effort, I also designed the sermon slides and a weekly bulletin(image at right), which due to budget restraints had to fit the series branding but be printable on a standard office printer.

While the website itself did not generate the amount of online discussion that was hoped for it was hugely successful in generating interest in the series and was a key part of the series success.

Writing and Manuals

First Impressions Manual-‘A guide to creating a “WOW” Experience’

I wrote this manual for Crossroads Church in Lillington, NC. They are a ten year old church that is trying to create a more focused ministry. One of the things they realized was they needed a better system for moving guests from first time visitors to regular attenders. They came to me to head this project up. I spent a few months doing research, contacting other churches, and visiting some other churches, after which I put together this manual. I was responsible for the writing, layout, and design of the entire thing. I have since offered it up to other churches for free through this blog, The Church Marketing Lab, and my Open Source Church project, with many people downloading and using it in their own churches.
